Policies and Procedures of The Village Woman's Club Foundation Grants Committee

1. The organization must have a 501 (c) (3) status. AS a part of the application procedure, the organization must include:
(a) A copy of the tax-exempt letter from theIRS under section 501 (c) (3)
(b) A copy of the letter establishing that the applicant is not a private foundation.
2. Applications for financial grants with all support material must be postmarked within the period of May 1 through and including August 1.
3. Form letters will not be considered.
4. There will be no limit on the amount given to an organization or the number of organizations to which grants are given.
5. Grants will be confined to agencies and their programs located exclusively in, and supporting individuals who reside in, Oakland, Wayne and Macomb Counties.
6. Agencies being considered for a grant will be investigated. This research will include an on-site visit at least biennially by Grants Committee members. An initial visit is mandatory.
7. Grants will not be given to agencies to cover salaries of directors, executives or secretarial staff.
8. Grants will not be given for building improvements to the physical plant.
9. Grants will not be given to agencies that have been incorporated for less than 3 years.
10. Grants will not be given to medical research or assistance for any specific disease because the national character of these groups and the intense competition among them.
11. Grants will not be given to individuals for scholarships.
12. Grants will not be given to university or college scholarship funds due to the intense competition among these schools and their abilities to raise funds among alumni.
13. The Grants Committee will make recommendations for allocation of VWC Foundation funds to the Foundation Board for final approval by April of each year.
14. There is no date established for the distribution of funds by the VWC Foundation.
15. No emergency appeals will be considered.
16. Organizations granted money will use the money within one year from the date of issue for the stated purpose it was given. It will not be placed in an escrow, savings or any account for the purpose of accumulation of funds. Written acknowledgement must be sent to confirm the use of the funds.
17. These policies will be reviewed annually.
